Vitus is a mineral supplement designed to support livestock by making a broad range of minerals available in a bio-available form. Suitable for ruminants, horses and poultry, Vitus allows animals to self-regulate their mineral intake, helping them respond to imbalances within their diet.

Many farming systems rely on supplementing individual minerals to compensate for what may be lacking in pasture. While this can address short-term deficiencies, it doesn’t always account for how minerals interact within the animal.

Vitus takes a different approach – providing a wide spectrum of minerals that animals can access as needed, supporting balance rather than forcing intake of specific elements.

Where mineral imbalances exist, these can place pressure on animal health and performance, particularly during periods of growth, calving, and lactation.

Vitus is a blend of five ingredients, three of which are ocean-derived, providing a naturally occurring range of minerals. All ingredients are blended and bagged in their natural state at our Paeroa plant.

This broad-spectrum approach supports mineral availability in a form animals can recognise and utilise, rather than relying on isolated or highly processed inputs.

As animals balance their intake of key minerals such as calcium and magnesium, along with trace elements, this can help reduce the effects of excesses – such as high potassium levels often seen in pasture.

Ingredients

Diatomaceous Earth

Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is included to support digestive health and natural detoxification processes within the animal.

It works by binding to unwanted compounds in the digestive tract, which are then expelled and returned to the soil system, where they can be further broken down by soil biology.

DE has also been widely used to support the management of internal parasite pressure. Its physical properties can create an environment within the digestive tract that is less favourable for certain parasites, particularly when provided over an extended period.

For best results, DE is typically fed continuously for a minimum of 60 days, with longer periods often used to align with parasite life cycles, including those that migrate through the lungs before returning to the digestive system.

The silica component can also contribute to improved resilience against external pests, as small amounts are transferred onto the animal’s coat through normal grooming behaviour.

Diatomaceous Earth is a naturally occurring substance and is commonly used in animal systems due to its compatibility with both livestock and soil biology. When returned to the soil via manure, it integrates without disrupting beneficial soil organisms such as earthworms.

Some farmers have observed that animals newly introduced to Vitus show visible signs of parasite clearance, even where previous drenching programmes had been in place.

While soil calcium and magnesium levels are best addressed through soil amendments guided by testing, animals may still require supplement

Directions for use

Vitus is designed to be offered ad-lib, allowing animals to self-regulate their intake. Place Vitus in bins or troughs in the paddock and allow animals free access.

Vitus can also be added to pelletised feed where required.

Vitus is not affected by rain. Animals will often drink the water that collects on top, and continue to consume the product as normal.
